A fantastic period to visit Kefalonia is always the month of August! It is then when the Summer festivals on our island reach their peak in the majority of the cities, towns and even small villages as both native Kefalonians and tourists visit us from all around the world!
The majority of the festivals are the so called in Greek "Panigiria" which are free to attend, with songs, celebrations and dance! There you can find wonderful food such as souvlaki and drinks to buy if it helps get you into a dancing mood!
Lately, in some festivals vegetarian and vegan options are available such as in Poros!
The peak of the festivals is around the 15th of August in honor of the celebration of the Virgin Mary and some village churches such as Markopoulos and Arginia celebrate the yearly appearance of the safe, with out venom and with the sign of a cross on their heads snakes!
Finally, there is a rich plethora of pure musical events by our island's three municipalities, Argostoli, Sami and Paliki (Lixouri) with popular local and national artists especially in August but also from May to September every year!
