If there is one thing that is certain about the truly amazing tourism paradise of the Municipality of Sami Kefalonia it's that you will never get bored no matter how many times you visit it!
Firstly, Sami has a bright history that expands from ancient times as it is even mentioned in Homer's ancient historic literary works (Iliad and Odyssey) that helped shape the progress of human history!
The town of Sami was made famous all around the world again in the year 2000 when renowned author Louis de Bernières's novel "Captain Corelli's Mandolin" was made into a Hollywood class movie by Oscar winner Director John Madden (starring Nicolas Cage, Penelope Cruz, John Hurt and Christian Bale to name just a few super stars!)
The town of Sami and its surrounding areas are full of ancient ruins (like the Sami Acropolis and Baths) and more recent ones like the Agii Fanentes Christian ruins. You shouldn't be surprised if you hear stories from the locals about archeologists discovering ancient coins, statues and other artifacts in their own back yards!
In our days, usually in mid Summer, the well known Saristra Festival takes place in the 1953 earthquake ruins of the Palia Vlahata village.
In the outskirts of the town of Sami an excellent "Odysseus Theme Park" has been recently created with buildings, animals, plants, statues and other exhibits that show the story of the ancient King of Ithaca Odysseus! Should you visit Kefalonia, you should definitely visit the "Odysseus Theme Park" especially with your children! The experience is truly fantastic!
In Sami, many tourists come there, even from Cruise Ships, to visit the Cave of Drogarati with its awesome Stalagmites and Stalactites and the majestic Cave Lake of Melissani with its prehistoric myths!
For those wishing to enjoy the wonderful beaches of Kefalonia Sami, Karavomilos, Agia Efimia, Myrtos, Antisamos, Assos and Fiscardo beaches are also extremely recommended. Many of these places are in addition recommended for their high class restaurants, coffee shops, bars and other tourist shops!
Finally, from the port of Sami you can go to the neighboring island of Ithaca (as from Poros) for another taste of tourist paradise! Also, I would like to recommend that you definitely visit the world class restaurants in Fiscardo (a beautiful village that wasn't destroyed by the earthquakes of 1953 and still has many buildings of the time intact) as you may find there world class celebrities visiting the village (usually with yachts!)
