As can also be seen from the photos and the video, the long-awaited works of stabilization, protection and enhancement of the Mycenaean Tholos Tomb in Tzannata, near Poros in Kefalonia, have begun and are underway. This is a project that both the locals and friends of archaeology from all over Greece and abroad had been eagerly awaiting.
The project entitled “Stabilization, protection and enhancement of the Mycenaean tholos tomb at Tzannata, Kefalonia” aims at protecting the masonry and shaping the surrounding area, so that this important archaeological site can be showcased as it deserves.
The tholos tomb of Tzannata is the largest and most important Mycenaean (hegemonic/princely) tholos tomb in the Ionian Islands and dates to approximately 1350 BC.
According to the President of Poros, Kefalonia, Odysseas Galiatsatos, the contractor has undertaken the obligation to complete the project in 540 calendar days of pure working duration from the date of signing the contract. A protective dome will also be constructed.
Upon completion of the works, the site is expected to acquire even greater value and to attract a significant number of Greek and foreign visitors, contributing to the tourist and cultural development of the area.
We hope the works will be completed on time and in accordance with the schedule of the Ministry of Culture.
