A very important remembrance event will be held by the British community of our Kefalonia on 8 November 2026 at 10:55 a.m. at the historic British Cemetery in Drapano, near Argostoli.
The organisers of the event, on behalf of the British community in Kefalonia — which, according to our information, numbers eight thousand permanent residents — are Roy Harrison and Christopher Gaylor.
While every year the established annual British remembrance event, which coincides with the remembrance ceremonies for the end of the First World War that took place on 11/11/1918 at 11:00 a.m. and is held on the nearest Sunday at the same time, was held in previous years at Napier Garden, this year, thanks to the permission granted by the Municipality of Argostoli, it will take place, as the organisers wish, at the British Cemetery, which will be cleaned and, we hope, restored.
This year, at the remembrance event, thanks to the help of the municipal authority, with the deputy mayors in charge Spiros Samouris and Nikos Kourkoumelis, it is expected that the participation of the British and of Greek officials will be much greater.
For the time being, please read the announcement/invitation of the British Roy Harrison that follows:
"Service of Remembrance 2026.
Good morning everyone.
Once again we are approaching November.
Which prompts me to remind everyone that we will be holding the Remembrance Service on Sunday the 8th November.
In recent years this was held in Napier Garden Argostoli. This year, thanks to negotiations between Christopher Gaylor and the Municipalities Vice Mayor the service is to take place
in the British Cemetery Drapano.
In recent days a work team from the municipality has begun clearing the site. As long as that goes to schedule it will be ready for us.
This latest arrangement may well be the start of the Resurrection of our cemetery . (no pun intended).
The service will begin at 1055hrs. Please be there in time.
This year we have an opportunity to enjoy a larger turnout than in recent years. This is especially important as the Vice Mayor is assisting us.
I look forward to seeing everyone.
Many thanks in anticipation.
Roy"
Finally, we all wish that the event of our beloved British friends will be crowned, as it deserves, with complete success.
Spiros Kagadis
